John M. Hassett, esq., has been engaged in the practice of criminal defense for over 30 years. He is admitted to practice in the State of Maryland, the United States District Court for Maryland, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals for the United States, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has represented clients with special permission by courts in California, North Carolina and Delaware.
Mr. Hassett is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association, the MCDAA Legislative Committee, the Baltimore County Bar Association, and the BCBA Criminal Law Committee among other professional organizations. He has served as a member of the Peer Review Committee of the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland.
After serving as a Judicial Intern for the Circuit Court for Frederick County, Mr. Hassett was an Assistant State’s Attorney for Baltimore City where he prosecuted cases involving misdemeanors, felony narcotic violations, murder, rape and sex offenses, crimes of violence and criminal conspiracies. He supervised and prosecuted several narcotic wiretap investigations. Mr. Hassett was cross-designated as an Assistant United States Attorney prior to establishing his law practice.
For over 30 years Mr. Hassett has been representing clients in all Maryland District and Circuit courts, Federal courts, and State and Federal Appellate Courts. He has successfully defended cases involving murder, white-collar embezzlement and fraud, drug violations, DUI, armed robbery, conspiracy, handgun and firearm violations, violation of probation and routine traffic matters. Upon graduation from Frostburg State University in 1976, Mr. Hassett attended the University of Baltimore Law School where he received his Juris Doctor in 1979.
